A Birth Story

Today makes 1 month since this little guy came into the world. There has been so much attention placed on my illness that we forgot to celebrate the perfect birth!

The Birth Story of Joseph William Donnell Polk:
Due to a previous C-Section I chose to have a C-section with him. I picked November 7 as his birthday but he had other plans. Around 5AM on November 6th I woke up with contractions. I wasn’t sure they were contractions because I had so many Braxton Hicks. I went and took a bath and timed them and when I was certain they were real I woke JoJo up and called the doctor. He told us to head to the hospital. When I arrived JoJo dropped me off and went to park and Aubrey sat with me and during each contraction she would grab my hand and breathe the way they do on all the TV shows, she was an excellent labor coach. Once they got me settled into a room my sister showed up to take Aubrey home. They said my blood pressure was a little high but once the shifts changed they would take me back to the operating room. Around 8:15 they wheeled me back. When I walked in the nurses asked me what my favorite type of music was and I replied “I like all kinds of music.” She said “No Honey, this is your day and you get to pick the playlist”. So I told her 90’s R&B and Hip Hop. She then high-fived the nurse beside her! When JoJo walked in you could tell that he was confused as to what was going on. It was like walking into a scene from Grey’s Anatomy.

The C-Section took no time at all and LJ came out not making a sound. When they were cleaning him up he grunted a couple of times but still no loud crying. The wrapped him up and handed him to me and this hungry monster wanted to nurse right then! A month later and he still barely cries and he loves to eat.

I chose to have my tubes tied and while the doctor was doing that he and the nurse were literally dancing to Montell Jordan’s “This is how we do it”!!!! It was the happiest environment for a baby to be born in.

The song that was playing when LJ was born.

Some people have asked about his name. No we did not name him LaDonald. That was something my sister started. Her name is LaDawn and my dad is Donald. She said that we should name him after them and she decided to call him LaDonald – she still calls him that.
We named him
Joseph – after his daddy
William – after JoJo’s best friend
Donnell – is a combination of my dad (Donald) and JoJo’s Uncle (Joel) who was his father figure growing up. In case you are wondering Aubrey has 3 names as well. We have decided to call him LJ because Cat kept calling him that and it has stuck with JoJo and I.

I am totally in love with this little man! He is perfect in every single possible way! Thank you to all who took the time to visit him in the nursery and shower him with love.
